Which companies provide the greatest shareholder returns – Stars (high growth, high cash flow return on investment), Dogs (low growth, low CFROI), Cash Cows (low growth, high CFROI), or Question Marks (high growth, low CFROI)? In order to answer this question, researchers at Credit Suisse took the 1,000 largest U.S. companies (excluding financials and utilities) and “then back-tested the performance of these four groups of companies to 1976”.
